Evolving a design on paper allows problems to be overcome before any work is started, avoiding costly and frustrating mistakes. Having fully detailed plans makes it easy to obtain competitive quotes, or, if you chose, the construction of the garden can be approached in stages with a view to completing the grand plan over a number of years as your budget allows.
By listening and interpreting your ideas and wishes, as a designer I can develop a scheme which is beautiful, unique and in keeping with your property, as well as being a true reflection of your personal style.
The first step is a visit to have a look at the garden & discuss your ideas. Don't worry if you don't have a clear idea of what you want, I can help work through this with you. It is also important to have thought about your budget at this stage. Following our meeting I will send you a letter outlining the design brief and give a fixed cost for the design process up to and including the Master plan.
I will carry out a detailed survey of your garden to plot boundaries,
structures, trees and
levels and analyse the soil. If the garden is very large
it may be necessary to engage the services
of a surveyor, which will be charged for separately.
The Concept Plan is drawn up to show proposed layout, areas of hard landscaping, suggested materials, structures and an outline of planting ideas, plus sketches or drawings needed to help you visualise the design.
I will present the plan at a time convenient to you (usually 3-4 weeks after the survey).
This is an opportunity for you to look at the design in detail and ask
any questions.
Ordinarily minor amendments are not charged. However, if this is due to a serious change of mind on your part or unforeseen circumstances then revisions will be charged for at my usual hourly design rate.
This drawing will include any changes you may have asked for and is an accurate layout plan with all the dimensions needed to set out the garden.
Whether you want the garden built for you or build it yourself I can help
you through the
process, liaising with contractors and monitoring construction
if required.
Although the Master Plan will indicate the general style of planting a detailed planting plan, showing location, sizes and quantities of plants, ensures the design realises its full potential. I am able to source and deliver quality plants at competitive prices; these can then be planted by a contractor or yourselves.
Follow up visits can be arranged to review the development of the garden and fine tune it as it grows.
Occasionally I may need to engage the services of specialists – structural engineers, surveyors, tree surgeons etc., these are charged for separately.
